We are now seeking another talented early-to-mid career safety professional to join our Melbourne team.
The role
We need a smart, people-focused and driven early-to-mid career safety professional ready to assist with the delivery of our safety and ergonomics consulting projects and forensic engineering (incident and injury investigation) work.
Incident investigations usually involve consideration of situations where either strain injury (manual handling & overuse/RSI), plant (fixed and mobile) and machinery incidents, slips, trips and falls or product failures have occurred. Safety and ergonomics improvement projects for our clients involve evaluating and advising on workplaces, equipment, systems and processes.
You will receive extensive in-house support and training as you deepen your safety knowledge and develop your consulting skills. You will do this while visiting and analysing fascinating work environments, and while working on interesting problems with great people.
As detailed below under Key Responsibilities, initially you will mostly assist with incident investigations and in the preparation of expert liability reports. As you grow your capabilities in these specialist areas, however, your work will expand to the other advisory parts of our business.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of expert liability reports under the direction of a Senior Consultant including:
- Perform initial new job file reviews.
- Accompany and assist Senior Consultants at site inspections and/or interviews.
- Undertake relevant research and incident reconstruction/analysis under the direction and training of a Senior Consultant.
- Assist with the drafting of expert reports.
- Identify opportunities to update our technical library with new and improved IP and implement as appropriate.
- Assist with the delivery of safety and ergonomics consulting projects, including research, analysis, reporting and presenting to clients.
- Contribute to business improvement projects.
- Contribute to regular in-house knowledge sharing initiatives.
- Contribute to Dohrmann Consulting marketing efforts by attending business development events such as conferences and client hospitality.
- Assist with the management of test and other equipment used by consultants for site inspections, including calibration.

Consulting projects will involve ergonomics and safety assessments of workplaces, processes, or products; evaluation of and advice on designs; workplace safety audits and inspections; manual handling risk assessments and safety training. Essential requirements
You must have or hold at minimum:
- Exceptional written and verbal English skills as immediately demonstrated via your written application and in person interview.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher degree in one or more of the following science or health science-related disciplines:
- Ergonomics or human factors;
- Engineering (e.g. biomedical, mechanical, civil);
- Physiotherapy;
- Exercise physiology;
- Occupational therapy;
- Medical science;
- Skill acquisition/motor learning;
- Psychology (organisational);
- Paramedicine; or,
- Forensic science.
You will demonstrate an obvious desire to learn and grow in a new field; and to develop strong logic and reasoning skills.
Highly regarded
We will favourably view any further:
- Direct experience, applied research or studies in accident causation or investigation.
- Experience in risk or failure investigation, including associated methods.
