Simon is a skill acquisition specialist and biometrics engineer with a Marie Curie Fellowship in Industrial Engineering, a PhD in Motor Learning and Control and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Simon is also a Medical Scientist with a BSc in Anatomy and Physiology.
Simon’s expertise lies in understanding how people learn, remember, perform, and adapt skills to identify the determinants of expert skill performance and the causes of human error. Simon then uses this knowledge to optimise performance and reduce the risk of human error through evidence-based training combined with modifications to the task and the environment in which the task is performed.
Simon’s experience spans Formula 1 as well as other 2- and 4-wheel motorsports, road safety and accident investigation, manual handling in occupational settings, elite individual, team, and combat sports, gait and posture and medico-legal audit. He has an in-depth understanding of visual perception, decision-making, the biomechanics of skill performance and training design with more than fifty publications in related areas and 30 years’ experience in delivering training in sporting, occupational, educational, and healthcare settings.
Simon is actively involved in performance coaching in Formula 1 and has more than three decades experience in the martial arts. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, cooking, travelling, and tinkering with cars.
